Universities, industry tackle labour market mismatch | Bangkok Post: news

CUPT president Suchatvee Suwansawat said the committee wants greater collaboration between universities and industry in four areas. Chen Namchaisiri, chairman of the FTI, said even though 500,000-600,000 new graduates emerge from Thai universities every year, the industrial sector still faces a labour shortage. He said the shortage of labour in many businesses results from the mismatch of job-seekers' skills and job requirements. "Many Thai universities have yet to develop and provide faculties that meet industrial demand, so we need to build sustainable linkages between universities and industry to improve workforce management," he added. Mr Suchatvee said universities are aware of the situation and have adjusted themselves to keep up with rapid changes in labour market.
